When we think of a makerspace, we think of an area in a home or classroom specifically set aside for projects and creation. But what exactly goes into this space? We’ve created a handy list for you, so your family or classroom can get started on their own makerspace!
10 Essentials that your MakerSpace Should Have!
1 – LED lights: as many as you can find, in as many colors, sizes and shapes as possible. They are multi-use, reusable and just plain fun.
2 – Batteries: Never be caught without batteries. Every makerspace deserves a stockpile of them.
3 – Rules: There must be expectations set – clean-up, organization and safety first!
4 – Organization: Everything should have a place. Getting an organizer, like plastic storage bins, drawers or a set of racks, will be a lifesaver when you’re looking for just the right materials.
5 – Tablet or Computer: For coding, of course!
6 – Stationery: Having notebooks, pens and pencils is essential for creation! Every maker needs a space for ideation and notetaking.
7 – Tape: Duct-tape, Copper and Masking tape will come in handy for projects of all kinds.
8 – Cardboard: You can make pretty much anything with cardboard – mazes, structures, project prototypes – having it around is very helpful!
9 – MakeCrate: Of course, you can’t forget MakeCrate – keep us in your makerspace. This is where you’ll complete many of the projects in your MakeCrate subscription box.
10 – Odds & Ends: Finally, stock your makerspace with legos, coins, popsicle sticks: you name it! They’ll all come in handy. And if you follow the rule of keeping your space organized, it’ll be easy to find them when you have the perfect project for that material!
